Yesterday's Work on the River.

All three of the University crews were on the river yesterday. Ober was back at 2 in the first boat and Shepard went to 6 in the second. Foster, who has been taking Shepard's place in the second, was moved back to 4 in the third. The slide work of all three crews is still far from satisfactory, especially on the finish of the recover. The second boat finishes of the recover. The second boat finishes poorly and the third is decidedly weak on the catch.

In a brush of about a mile and three-eighths between the second and third crews the former was beaten by nearly four lengths of open water. The second crew picked up the third at a point about half a mile below Harvard Bridge and the two crews rowed to Longwood Bridge. At the start the third crew was a length behind the second, but once through the bridge gained steadily up to the finish.

The new University shell arrived yesterday from Hoyle's shop at Ithaca. It will be rigged at once and will probably be tried sometime this week.

The crew will leave for New London on June 10.
