The University lacrosse team defeated Hobart College yesterday in a hardfought game by the score of 4 goals to 3. All the scoring for Harvard was done in the first half, Hobart being outclassed both in stick-work and team play. In the second half, however, Hobart excelled and scored twice on long shots. On the whole, the stick-work and team play were good, despite the wet field. The chief weakness of the University team was that the defence did not adequately cover its opponents. Bennett, Outerbridge and Kibbey played the best game for Harvard; for Hobart, no one player noticeably excelled.
During the remainder of the week the team will have light practice in preparation for the games with Columbia and the Crescent Athletic Club next Friday and Saturday at New York.
The line-up yesterday was as follows: Score-Harvard 4, Hobart 3. Goals--Bennett 2, Goddard, Outerbridge, Giltrap, Partridge, Wilson. Referee - F. W. Lehmann, Jr., '05. Umpires-de Roode of Harvard, Ryan of Hobart. Time-keepers-Atwood of Harvard, Willard of Hobart. Halves-20 minutes.
