PRINCETON DEBATE QUESTION

The University Debating Council chose last evening the following question for the debate with Princeton which will be held in Sanders Theatre on the evening of Friday, May 6: "Resolved, That laws be passed compelling the management of a business undertaking which secures control of an industry to sell its product at reasonable rates, without discrimination." Princeton will have ten days in which to choose its side of the question. A list of twenty-five men from whom the judges will be chosen, will be sent to Princeton today.

The trials, in which any member of the University may compete, will be held in the New Lecture Hall on Monday, March 28; Friday, April 1; and Thursday, April 7; all at 7.30 o'clock. At the first trial each man will be allowed to speak five minutes, and from twelve to sixteen men will be retained. At the second trial, the speeches will be ten minutes in length, and six men will be retained. These six men will be divided by lot into two teams, which, at the final trial, will hold a regular debate, with main speeches of twelve and rebuttal speeches of five minutes. The three best speakers will be chosen for the first team; and the other three will form the second team, from which an alternate will be selected. The Coolidge prize of one hundred dollars will be awarded to the contestant doing the best work in all three trials.

The judges at the trials will be Professor G. P. Baker '87, Professor I. L. Winter '86, Mr. S. R. Wrightington '97, Mr. A. P. Stone '93, and one other, not yet selected.

Men who intend to try for the team must leave their names with J. Daniels '04, Thayer 13, by 10 o'clock next Sunday evening. The order of speakers will be posted in Gore Hall on Monday morning.
