The University baseball squad held its first outdoor practice yesterday afternoon. After the usual batting practice in the cage, the squad practiced fielding flies on the old football field. The men were coached particularly in being ready to start for balls as soon as they were batted. They worked in three squads, under Coach Frantz, P. N. Coburn 1L., and P. Carr '04. A. V. Galbraith '99 also assisted in the coaching.
Practice this week has been devoted to quickening all plays and the work has been much harder than heretofore. Much attention has been paid to fielding, particularly of swift line balls. The men have also practiced double plays, in which they showed considerable improvement both in speed and accuracy. In catching men between bases, however, there has been little improvement over the work of a week ago. Batting practice has been held every day.
