The University Fencing team, composed of H. W. Holmes 1G., captain, A. Tyng '04, and W. MacLeod '05, was defeated by Cornell at Ithaca last night by the score of five bouts to four. The matches were closely fought and the entire contest was an exhibition of excellent fencing. MacLeod did the best work for Harvard.
The team will meet West Point today at West Point. As in the match with Cornell yesterday, nine bouts will be held, each man fencing one bout with each of the three men on the opposing team. West Point has won the intercollegiate tournament in New York for the past two years, and has a very strong team this year, having lost but one man by graduation.
