The University catalogue, which was issued yesterday, shows a total enrolment this year of 6,207, a decrease of 511 from last year's figures. This decrease affects every department of the University except the Law School and the Bussey Institute, which show an increase of 20 and 1, respectively. The number of administrative officers is 4 more than last year.
The most serious losses appear in the College, Medical School and Summer School, but these can be easily accounted for. Members of the Senior class of the College are registered in professional schools in unprecedented numbers; the class which graduated from the Medical School in June was the last to enter under the old admission requirements; and the enrolment in the Summer School was remarkably large in 1903, owing to the many teachers at the convention of the National Education Association, held in Boston in July of that year.
With the exception of the changes announced above, there are few changes in the new catalogue. Provisions for the payment of term bills, as instituted this year, are stated in detail for each department.
Information in regard to the new plan, by which a student wishing to enter the University may take papers of the College Entrance Examination Board, is given on page 350.
The catalogue consists of 773 pages and has complete information on all departments of the University. It contains the University calendar for the year, a detailed list of courses, a statement of the fellowships and scholarships offered, the prizes, honors and degrees awarded in 1903-04, and the directory of officers and students. It is on sale at the Co-operative, Sever's, Thurston's and Amee's for 50 cents a copy.
