Conventions of Learned Societies.

During the Christmas recess a number of American associations of learning will hold meetings in various cities, and several members of the Faculty and graduates of the University will be present at nearly all of them.

The Archaeological Institute of America will meet in Boston on December 28, 29 and 30. On the first and last days, meetings will be held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; on December 29 there will be a meeting in the Fogg Art Museum, followed by a dinner at the Union in the evening. Professors C. E. Norton '46, J. W. White p.'77, J. R. Wheeler p.'85 and Mr. C. P. Bowditch '63 will deliver addresses. Papers will be read by Professors C. H. Moore h.'90 and G. F. Moore, Dr. G. H. Chase '96 and Mr. A. M. Lythgoe '92. Mr. E. Robinson '79 will make an address explaining objects of archaeological interest in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science will meet in Philadelphia during the week of December 26. Other societies, affiliated with the American Association, which will also meet in Philadelphia on different days of the same week, are. The American Folk Lore Society, the American Association of Anatomists, the Society of American Bacteriologists, the American Association of Zoologists--Eastern Branch, the American Society of Naturalists, the Botanical Society of America, and the Society for Plant Morphology and Physiology. Besides Professor W. G. Farlow '66, president of the American Association, the following Harvard men will be present at the meetings of the societies and present papers: Professors G. L. Kittredge '82, E. L. Mark, W. E. Castle '93, H. P. Bowditch '61, T. Dwight '66, G. H. Parker '87, B. L. Robinson '87, C. S. Minot '78, E. H. Hall, Drs. E. C. Jeffrey p.'99 and H. W. Morse.

On December 27, 28 and 29 the Amerca Philosophical Association will meet Philadelphia. Professors J. Royce, H. Munsterberg h.'01, and Dr. E. B. Holt '96 will be present. Professor Royce will read a paper on "Kant's Doctrine Regarding the Foundations of Mathamatics". The American Psychological. Association and the American Zoological Society will meet in conjunction with that Philosophical Association. Dr. R. M. Yerke '98 will read papers before both of them societies.

The Modern Language Association and the American Dialect Society will meet December 28, 29 and 30 at Providence. Professor C. H. Grandgement '83, secretary of the Association, to Professor H. Schofield '87, Dr. H. DeV. Fuller '98, Dr. A. M. Potter '95, Dr. S. G. Morley p.'99, Mr. H. S. Jones 2G. and Mr. J. L. Lowes 3G. will all read papers before the societies.

On December 28, 29 and 30 the American Historical Association will hold its wentieth annual meeting in Chicago. Professors A. B. Hart '80, A. C. Coolidge C. H. Haskins and E. F. Gay will attend from Harvard. Professor Gay will read a paper on "The Significance of the Inclosure Movement in England."

The American Economic Association will also meet in Chicago on December 28, 29 and 30. Professor Taussig, President of the Association, will make the chief address, and Professor A. P. Andrew '95 will read a paper on "The Theory of Money." Professor T. N. Carver and W. Z. Ripley will also attend. Joint meetings with the Historical Association and American Political Society

On December 29 and 30 the American Mathematical Society will hold its annual meeting at Columbia University, New York. Professor M. Bocher '88, Dr. E. V. Huntington '95, and probably Professor W. F. Osgood '86 will attend. Dr. Huntington will read a paper on "A Set of Postulates for Ordinary Complex Algebra."

On December 29 and 30 the American Mathematical Society will hold its annual meeting at Columbia University, New York. Professor M. Bocher '88, Dr. E. V. Huntington '95, and probably Professor W. F.
