Secret practice of the University football squad yesterday afternoon, although again characterized by aggressiveness, was ragged and crude. Off-side penalties were imposed continually on the first eleven for charging too soon. Although both the second team and the substitutes played a strong defensive game holding the first eleven several times for downs, on the offensive they were unable to make any consistent gains.
The scrimmage lasted 25 minutes and consisted first of a line-up between the first team and substitutes, and later between the first and second teams. There was no scoring in either line-up. The tackling in the open field was good, especially that of Pruyn. There was, however, a discouraging amount of fumbling. Foster, at right halfback on the second eleven, played a good defensive game.
Parker and Derby did not report for practice yesterday, the latter on account of an injury received Wednesday. Hurley was on the field but did not engage in the scrimmage. Jones, who hurt his knee in Wednesday's scrimmage reported but was given only light work.
The line-up: The line-up of the second eleven was: Shurtleff, r.e.; Kersberg, r.t.; Pell, r.g.; Couleur, c.; Upham, l.g.; Pierce, l.t.; Guild, l.e.; Brennick, q.b.; Lockwood, r.h.b.; Snyder, l.h.b.; Snyder, l.h.b.; Prendergast, f.b.
