The University eleven will play its second game of the season with Bowdoin on Soldiers Field this afternoon at 4 o'clock. Last year Harvard defeated Bowdoin in a one-sided game by the score of 24 to 0. Six of Bowdoin's last year's team are still on the team, and the weight of her line averages about 175 pounds. Bowdoin has already played two games, winning the first from Fort Preble, 23 to 0, and losing the second to Phillips Exeter Saturday, by the score of 11 to 0.
The probable line-up of the two teams follows: The practice of the University football squad yesterday afternoon was marked by energetic playing and was extremely encouraging. The absence of Captain Hurley, Oveson, Brill, Montgomery and Guild from the line-up, however, owing to slight injuries, somewhat weakened the opposing teams. The most noticeably good work in the scrimmage was done by Nichols, who played a fast, aggressive game at left halfback on the first. Nesmith, who played at right half, was slow in starting, and failed to choose his holes well when running with the ball. R. P. Kernan '03 coached the punters, giving special attention to Nichols and H. Kernan. The fifteen minute scrimmage between the first and second elevens again resulted in a score, the first securing two touchdowns and the second one. The first kicked off to the 10-yard line and the ball was advanced 10 yards. Means punted and then the University backs rushed the ball with good gains from the 30-yard line, until Nichols went out-side left guard for a touchdown. Noyes kicked the goal. The second touchdown was also made by Nichols on a mass play through the line. Just before time was called the second broke through and blocked a punt. The ball rolled behind the goal line and Pell fell on it, making a touchdown for the second. The line-up:
