Haverford, Pa., Oct. 3.--In the preliminary and first rounds of the twenty-fourth annual intercollegiate tennis tournament which began here today, the Harvard entries won six matches and lost one, thus leaving J. I. B. Larned '05, B. S. Prentice '05 (captain), and H. H. Whitman '06, in the singles. F. J. Sulloway '05, was beaten in the first round by Dewhurst of Pennsylvania in a well played match.
The matches in doubles will begin tomorrow morning.

Singles, preliminary round--Sulloway (Harvard) beat Bodman (Yale), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2; Buckley (Columbia) beat Downey (Pennsylvania), 8-6, 6-3; Prentice (Harvard) beat Northrop (Williams), 6-2, 6-3; Trendall (Princeton) beat Stedson (Yale) 6-0, 6-4; Leroy (Columbia) beat Smith (Williams), 6-4, 6-2; Richardson (Princeton) beat Spaeth (Haverford), 6-3, 6-1; Whitman (Harvard) beat Davis (Pennsylvania), 6-2, 6-2.
