NO SCORE IN PRACTICE

The Freshmen Prevent University Team from Scoring.--Much Fumbling.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University football eleven in secret practice yesterday, after long preliminary work of the usual nature, lined up against the Freshman team for a 20-minute half, in which neither side scored. The Freshman eleven proved unexpectedly strong and showed really well developed team play. The offensive work was powerful, and the line charged low and fast at all times. Grant at centre, although he weighs only 151 pounds, made a good showing against Parkinson. Starr at quarterback ran his team well and Talbot at right guard played a strong game.

The Freshmen kicked off to Hanley, who carried the ball to the 25-yard line before he was tackled. The University team in several rushes advanced to the 40-yard line, but fumbled and lost the ball. A 5-yard penalty for offside play by the University team and a series of rushes by the Freshmen carried the ball to the University's 8-yard line where the Freshmen were held for downs. Sperry, for the University eleven, dropped back for a punt, but receiving the ball on a poor pass, he ran it in 16 yards, to the 25-yard line where he was downed by Apollonio. The University team then carried the ball down the field to the 8-yard line where Wendell fumbled and Mason fell on the ball for the Freshmen. Mason then gained 8 yards and Starr on a fake kick gained 10 yards more. Talbot punted 60 yards to Kernan, whom he tackled on the University 50-yard line. The Freshmen were forced back to their own 40-yard line, but held for downs. Before time was called, they had gained a distance of 20 yards.
