The University Observatory recently purchased, with part of an anonymous gift, two 25-inch reflecting telescopes, one for use on the northern, and the other on the southern, stars. The mountings for the one to be set up in Cambridge are expected shortly, and as soon as they arrive the instrument will be mounted in the yard of the Observatory. The other telescope will be installed at the southern station of the Observatory in Arequipa, Peru. The telescopes are to be used ehiedy for photographic work and will be more powerful than any other now used in the Observatory for this purpose.
