Defense of Hockey Team Tested.

Nineteen men reported yesterday afternoon for University hockey practice on the Holmes Field rink. In the first of the two thirty-minute halves, the University team defeated the second by a score of 4 goals to 1. In the second half the forwards of the University team played on the second in order to afford the defense better practice. In this half the second team, thus strengthened by the first team forwards, scored 2 goals to 1.

Although the play, particularly in the second half, was fast and hard, the team-work was poor, the men showing a tendency to play out of their positions. The shooting was only fair, and the passing lacked accuracy.

Owing to a slight injury, Kernan did not take part in the practice. The line-up of the University team in the first half was as follows: Newhall, r.e.; Souther, r.c.; Wilder, l.c.; Townsend, l.e.; Clothier, c.p.; Carr, p.; Tyer, g.
