At the annual meeting of the Associates of Radcliffe College, Dean Briggs was unanimously elected president of Radcliffe to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of the honorary president, Mrs. Agassiz. For some time Mrs. Agassiz has felt unable to continue longer in the office of president, and her resignation was therefore accepted. Dean Briggs will continue his present connection with the University and will take up his new work at the opening of college in September.
Le Baron R. Briggs graduated from Harvard College in 1875 and received the degree of A.M. in 1882 and LL.D. in 1900. He was tutor in English 1878-'81, instructor in English 1883-'85, and assistant professor of English 1885-'90. In 1890 he was elected dean of Harvard College and professor of English. In May of last year he resigned his office of dean of Harvard College to become dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the position which he now holds.
