Crew Work Shows Improvement

RED TOP, GALES FERRY, June 9.--The University crew showed a marked improvement in its work today. This morning Coach Higginson devoted himself to the four-oared; but in the afternoon coached the eight on an eight-mile row in long stretches. Before the end of the work the crew was rowing in the best form it has shown so far. The hitch between strokes was less noticeable and the spacing much improved. This afternoon's work ended in a mile time row under favorable conditions, the time, 5m. 25s., being a slight improvement over that made for any mile in either of the previous four-mile rows.

Pleasonton, former stroke of the Freshman crew, did not arrive tonight as was expected, and at present it is doubtful if he will return to the crew. The Freshman eight are rowing well together, are steady on their stretchers, and promise to make a fast crew.
