The University baseball team defeated Williams on Saturday, in a slow game, by a score of 8 to 2. The team showed less spirit than they have in previous games, for when a victory was practically assured, the men made little effort to increase the score, with the result that the game was the slowest played by the team this year. The batting was again most unsatisfactory. Against a pitcher much inferior to Stillman, the team aggregated two less hits than their opponents, and were generally unable to hit at the opportune moment. One successful bunt was made. Although not spirited, the work of the men in the infield was fairly accurate, as is signified by two runs as against ten hits by the Williams nine. The three errors made were some-what excusable, and luckily not at all costly. The catch by H. D. Kernan of a foul fly deep in left field is praiseworthy. R. Kernan was quick to take advantage of a similar chance behind the bat. The base-running showed a little more life than in the Amherst game. This was partly due to the return to the team of Carr, who did some remarkably quick work, stealing four bases and scoring two runs. Stillman's pitching, although not at all brilliant, was very steady and showed up well at critical times. Although he allowed the Williams team ten hits, he gave but one base onaballs and struck out four men. Matthews's errors were both made on ground balls with an untrue bounce, and are therefore more or less excusable.

Williams was strong at the bat, but made several very costly fielding errors. Turrell's good record of eight strike-outs and eight hits allowed was due largely to the poor batting of the home team.

Matthews began the scoring for the home team, in the first inning, with a home run. In the fourth, Randall made a base hit and was advanced to the plate by the three-brace hit by Clarkson, who scored in turn on Stillman's fly to the outfield. Daly reached first on a base hit, and R. P. Kernan made an easy infield hit, which was thrown wild, scoring Daly, and advancing Kernan to third. Carr then received a base on balls, when a well-executed double steal brought Kernan home, and advanced Carr to second. An error by Watson allowed Carr to reach the plate, leaving the score 6 to 0. The last two runs were made in the eight inning, on base hits by Stillman, Carr and Coolidge. Williams Scored both her runs in the fifth inning on a timely bunching of hits.

The University baseball squad left Cambridge yesterday afternoon for Hanover, N. H., where they will arrive this morning, after spending the night in Concord, N. H., at the Eagle Hotel. This afternoon the team will play Dartmouth.

The Dartmouth team is not as strong as usual this year, only two of last year's team remaining on the nine this spring. They have defeated Exeter, 10 to 3; and Andover, 12 to 2. On Saturday the team won from Wesleyan, 15 to 0. Last year the University nine defeated Dartmouth, 4 to 2.
