Practically all the work of beautifying the Yard which will be done this year has now been completed. Trees and bushes of various kinds have been planted about the new fence and in greater profusion around the gates. In preparation for further work next year, the ground, which in some places was nearly exhausted, has been cultivated and re-fertilized. No attempt has yet been made to beautify to any great extent the surroundings of the buildings. It is hoped in the course of the next few years to make some of the more secluded places, such as that between Harvard Hall and Phillips Brooks House, and the space back of Holworthy, much more attractive than at present by planting shrubbery and flowering plants. The present simplicity of the Yard itself, however, will not be altered.
