BASEBALL WITH PRINCETON.

On Soldiers Field at 3.--Close, Interesting Game Expected.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University nine will play Princeton this afternoon on University Field, Princeton, at 3 o'clock.

Last year no game was played, as Princeton wished a series of two out of three games, which could not be arranged. In 1900 each won a game, Harvard by the score of 4 to 0, and Princeton by the score of 9 to 2.

Princeton and Harvard have made the best records of any of the eastern colleges so far this season, with the possible exception of Georgetown. Harvard has lost but one game, to Holy Cross. Princeton, with the exception of two defeats by Georgetown early in the season, has been victorious up to the defeat by Illinois on May 24 by the score of 3 to 1. Two games of the Yale-Princeton series have been played. The first, played at New Haven, resulted in a victory for Yale by the score of 10 to 6; the second was won by Princeton at Princeton by the score of 8 to 5. The first fame was carelessly played, and Yale showed poor head-work. The second game, played under unfavorable weather conditions, which were responsible for several errors, was won by Princeton's good playing in bunching hits and in clever base-running.

Both the Princeton pitchers, Stevens and Underhill are effective. It is not yet determined who will pitch. Steinwender at second, Pearson at first, Meier at short-stop and Green as catcher, played against Harvard in the game two years ago. The first three are among the strongest batters on the team.

The Harvard team has improved in batting, which has been its weak point, and the way runs were most lately been hitting when runs were most needed, is encouraging. Carr has been out of the game for some time on account of illness, and Matthews, who has been playing in his place, has showed up well. Clarkson will pitch.

The batting orders: HARVARD.  PRINCETON. Wendell, l.f.  2b., Steinwender Coolidge, s.s.  c.f., Cosgrave Stillman, c.f.  1b., Pearson Clarkson, p.  s.s., Meier Randall, 1b.  l.f., Brown Skilton, 2b.  r.f., Davis Daly, r.f.  3b., Wells Matthews, 3b.  c., Green R. Kernan, c.  p., Stevens or Underhill
