Weak pitching and erratic fielding by Wesleyan gave the baseball team an easy victory on Saturday by the score of 17 to 3. From the second inning the result of the game was at no time uncertain, Harvard scoring run after run by good hitting against a poor pitcher, and by repeated errors of Wesleyan's infield.

Although thirteen hits were made by the Harvard team, the batting cannot be said to have improved materially since the Brown game, as the Brown and Wesleyan pitchers are not in the same class. The fielding again showed creditable speed and accuracy, only one error being made throughout the game. The most encouraging feature of the play, however, was the speed and cleverness which the men showed in running bases. Two double steals were made, which were at the same time the most sensational and the most creditable plays of the game. Kernan's absence behind the bat was keenly felt, for although Stephenson played as well as might be expected of a man of small experience, he lacked steadiness, and allowed several costly passed balls. His work at the bat, however, was good. Coburn pitched well from beginning to end, allowing but two hits, and striking out sixteen men. In two innings he retired the Wesleyan team by three successive strike-outs, and throughout the game, gave but three bases on balls.

Wesleyan was weak in every department of the game, the poor pitching of Chapman and Hancock being supported by erratic fielding, and inaccurate throwing.

Wesleyan made the first run of the game in the second inning on a base hit, a sacrifice hit and two passed balls by Stephenson, Harvard tieing the score in the same inning on hits by Stephenson and Carr, coupled with two errors by Wesleyan. From that time on, the game was but a succession of hits and errors, the University team scoring four runs in the third inning, four in the fifth, six in the sixth and two in the seventh.
