John McGaw Woodbury, Street Commissioner of New York City, spoke at the Union last night on "The Need of College Men in Municipal Government." He emphasized the increased cleanliness of New York, due to enlightened methods, and showed how street cleaning could be made self-supporting by the scientific preparation of refuse for cementing, for fertilizer and the like. In closing, Mr. Woodbury said that it was chiefly the indolent rich who were the real cause of our municipal degradation. The lecture was followed by an informal discussion.
