News of the Week at Yale.

NEW HAVEN, CONN., March 28.--The favorable weather this week has given Coach Kennedy a chance to test the university crews under favorable rowing conditions. The men have been rowing in the harbor but a short time, but have been given long and hard practice, and on Thursday were sent over the two-mile course. The university crew is rowing in the following order: Stroke, Bogue; 7, Cross; 6, Miller; 5, Stubbs; 4, Judson; 3, Coffin; 2, Halpin, bow, Waterman; cox., Minor. A special effort will be made this year to develop a four-oar which will give Harvard a closer race than in the past.

The baseball team shows promise of unusual strength. Among the infield candidates are several very fast and sure men: Barnwell and Cote, who will fill two of the outfield positions, are both excellent players. The battery candidates are promising, though for the most part comparatively inexperienced. Professional coaching has been directed almost exclusively to base running and batting and the Wesleyan game showed a marked improvement along these lines.

The debating authorities are making every effort toward producing a team that will win the Princeton debate. The loss of the Harvard debate was a great disappointment to the whole university. A change will probably be made in the method of selecting the team which will result in the choice of hitherto inexperienced men. An urgent appeal has been made to the undergraduates to give debating their entire support.

The election of officers for the Y. M. C. A. was held on Friday night, and resulted as follows: President, H. H. Stebbins '04; vice-president, A. H. Bradford '05; treasurer, Percy H. Jennings '04; recording secretary, John Sloane, Jr., '05, R. H. Edwards '01, was reappointed University General Secretary.
