The University fencing team defeated Columbia in its first dual intercollegiate match of the season at the Hemenway Gymnasium last evening by a score of 7 points to 2. The bouts throughout the match were close, those between Arnold and St. Gaudens, and Arnold and Holmes being the most exciting. The individual scores in bouts won were as follows:

Harvard--St. Gaudens 3, Holmes 2, Roberts 2. Total, 7.

Columbia--Pitou 2, Arnold 0, Head 0. Total, 2.
