The work of the class crew squads of both the Weld and the Newell Clubs began at the University Boat-House yesterday afternoon. The Senior and Junior Weld crews were coached by Wray in the tank and the Senior and Junior Newell crews by Vail on the machines. Before the upperclass squads began work the whole Freshman squad was given a short practice in the tank. The Sophomore squads did not row.
For the present the work of the squads will consist of alternate practice in the tank and on the machines in the University Boat-House, the Weld crews using the tank one day and the Newell crews the next.
This afternoon the squads will report as follows: Freshmen at 3, Sophomores at 3.40, Juniors at 4.20. Seniors at 5. Owing to the large number of Freshman candidates it will be necessary for the squad to report punctually at 3 o'clock.
