On account of the change of the date of the Freshman-Exeter debate, it has been found necessary to hold the preliminary debates of the interclass series before the Christmas recess. The Senior-Junior debate will be held on Friday evening, December 18; the Sophomore-Freshman debate on Monday evening, December 21, and the final debate at a date to be announced later.
The question for the Sophomore-Freshman debate will be submitted by the Sophomore club, Friday, November 27. The trials to pick the Sophomore-Freshman teams will be held on the following dates:
First trial, Monday, November 30. Each speaker will be allowed five minutes and six men will be retained:
Second trial, Thursday, December 3. Each speaker will be allowed ten minutes and the first and second teams will be chosen.
Since the Junior and Senior clubs have been abolished, it will not be possible to follow the usual custom of having the Senior club submit the question, leaving the choice of sides to the Juniors. The permanent method of procedure will be settled later, but in the present case the president of the University Debating Club will appoint, at the meeting held tonight, a committee from the Senior members of the club who will submit the question on Friday, November 27, and a similar committee from the Junior members of the club, who will, with the Junior team as chosen, select the side which they wish to argue upon. These two committees will have the management of the trials of their respective classes, and will also be in charge of the arrangements of the final debate. Unless there is an unusually large number of candidates, only one trial will be held to pick the Senior and Junior teams, which will take place Tuesday, December 1. Each speaker will be allowed ten minutes.
