THIRTY MINUTE SCRIMMAGE.

The University eleven yesterday held at 30 minute scrimmage with the second eleven and scored a touchdown and a safety. The rain and wet field prevented fast play, and were partly accountable for the fumbling, of which there was much.

Bowditch did not play, and Meier and LeMoyne also were still out of the scrimmage. Nichols took LeMoyne's place in the punting, and did fairly good work, considering the weather conditions. Derby was moved to left tackle on the first eleven. Of the second eleven, Bartels played a conspicuously fast game at left end, both in mass plays and in the open field; Carr made a 20-yard run through the University eleven toward the close of the period. Squires had his nose broken, but went back into the scrimmage with a nose guard.

Schoellkopf received the kick-off and ran it back to the 30-yard line. Then Nichols punted to Mahoney on the second's 35-yard line. The University eleven regained the ball on a fumble, after the second had rushed it for only three yards, and from the second's 38-yard line the first eleven rushed to the 25-yard line. Marshall dropped back to the 35-yard line for an attempt to kick a goal from the field, but the ball went wide of the posts. A fumble by the second, however, on its 3-yard line almost immediately afterwards gave the ball to the first eleven and it was rushed over, Schoellkopf scoring.

The second kick-off also went to Schoellkopf and he ran it in 32 yards to the 37-yard line. From there the University eleven rushed the ball across the field nearly to the second's goal line and then lost it on a fumble. The second tried to punt from near its 20-yard line, but Montgomery and Knowlton broke through and blocked the kick; the ball rolled back of the second's goal line and there Sperry fell on it, the first eleven thus scoring a safety.
