The University football practice this afternoon will be open. Following the regular preliminary work, a fifteen minute line-up between the first and second elevens will commence at 4.30 o'clock.
Yesterday's work was very ragged and the most unsatisfactory since secret practice began. The faults were those that have characterized the play throughout the season, and some of them, notably fumbling and unsteadiness in starting, were even more pronounced than usual. Much time and ground were lost in starting before the ball was snapped, and the frequent loss of the ball on fumbles by both elevens was a discouraging feature of the practice.
In the preliminary practice, R. P. Kernan '03 gave special coaching on punts to LeMoyne, Nichols and Means. Nichols went through the signals, but did not enter the scrimmage. E. H. Greene '02, who has the center men in charge, coached Carroll in passing the ball.
Parkinson was given a day's rest yesterday, although he is not injured. McCarthy was in the line-up for the first time, and played a hard, but somewhat crude game at left half, after Harrison was forced to leave the line-up on account of hurting his ankle. R. A. Pope '05, who is not eligible this year played fullback on the second and proved very reliable on the defense.
The University eleven scored only three touchdowns in a 35-minute scrimmage. Meier making all three scores. LeMoyne got off some good punts, but allowed one to be blocked. The ball changed hands six times on fumbles, and just at the close of the line-up, the first eleven fumbled and lost the ball when within six yards of a touchdown.
