The following sixteen men were retained last night at the first trial to select the team for the Yale debate: R. M. Davis '04, M. E. Weldy 3L., R. W. Kelso '04, H. A. Hirshberg '06, P. P. Hibben 1L., E. M. Rabenold '04, T. H. Reed 3L., E. C. Johnson 1L., A. F. Ells 1L., F. I. Haber 2L., E. H. Letchworth 2L., I. I. Mattuck '05, F. Q. Morton '06, C. M. Owen 2L., J. W. Russell '06, A. B. Weiler sL.

Sixty men competed in the trial. The speaking was not up to the usual standard, as the speakers tended to rely too much on the simple reading of evidence without clearly indicating its value and bearing.

The second trial will be held on Friday evening, October 30, at 7.30 o'clock, in the Fogg Lecture Room. Ten minute speeches will be made and six men retained. The order of speakers is posted in Gore Hall.
