*Appleton Chapel, 7.30 p. m. First Religious Service of the Year. Addresses by the Rev. E. Winchester Donald, D.D., and the Rev. George A. Gordon, D.D., and the Rev. Professor W. W. Fenn. Students of the University should enter at the south side-door. Officers of the University and their families enter at the north side-door. The public are admitted at the front doors. Seats are reserved for members of the University until 7.25 p. m. Week-day morning prayers begin on Monday, October 5, at 8.45 a.m. No seats are reserved. Rev. Francis G. Peabody, D.D., will conduct morning prayers from October 5 to October 17. He may be found at Wadsworth House 1 daily from 11 till 1.

Lectures on the Expansion of the Common Law.
Under the auspices of the Law school, Sir Frederick Pollock, of London, will deliver four lectures on "The Expansion of the Common Law," at 3 p. m. on the following dates, in the New Lecture Hall:
Oct. 20.--The Foundations of Justice.
Oct. 21.--The Scales of Justice.
Oct. 22.--The Sword of Justice.
Oct. 23.--The Law of Reason.
These lectures will be open to the public, but seats on the floor will be reserved for the students in the Harvard Law School.
