BROWN AT 3 O'CLOCK TODAY.

The University eleven will play Brown on Soldiers Field this afternoon at 3 o'clock, in what promises to be a very easy game. There has been a great scarcity of available material at Brown this season, and the team is one of the weakest that has represented that university for a number of years. Two weeks ago Princeton beat Brown 29 to 0, and last Saturday Pennsylvania ran up against them a score of 30 to 0. Captain Webb, however, who had been barred from playing by a condition, returned to the game on Thursday and his presence in the Brown line should add materially to its strength.

From the fact that in today's game the University eleven will present what seems to be an approximation to its final make-up, it may be expected to make a better showing than it has in the practice of the last two days. On the other hand, it is impossible to expect fast individual play by men who are out of the game half the time, or to expect effective team-work from an eleven which, as a unit, has had little consecutive practice in perfecting itself either on the offensive or defensive. The disorganized practice, caused since the West Point game by a number of little injuries to the first team men, has done little to develop the team or to drill the potentially able players into actual strength and effectiveness.

Nichols, Hurley and Schoellkopf will be back of the line in the game today, and Sugden will play his first game this year, at centre.

Open practice yesterday afternoon was devoted by the University eleven, linesmen and backs, chiefly to practicing pistol starts, under the supervision of G. Murchie '95, who was out as coach yesterday for the first time this year. Coaches Greene and Lewis gave special coaching to the centre men--Wilder, Carrick and Sugden. The University eleven did not line-up for a scrimmage. At the close of the practice, the substitutes played a ten-minute half against the second team, scoring one touchdown just as time was called.
