GARDEN CITY, L. I., Oct. 22.--The individual and qualifying rounds of the intercollegiate golf tournament were played here today. The University team showed up well, seven members qualifying, and four of these--H. C. Egan, W. E. Egan, Chick and McBurney, being left after the first round. Chick won the medal for the lowest score in the qualifying round with a score of 80. The lowest score of the day, however, was made by H. C. Egan in the first round of match play with a card of 79. A high wind was the cause of the high scoring.
Following are the scores of the sixteen men who qualified in the 18-hole round this morning: W. C. Chick (H.), 80: F. O. Reinhart (Pr.), 83; N. S. Campbell (Y.), 83; H. C. Egan (H.), 85; M. Olyphant (Pr.), 86; B. D. Smith (Y.), 87; U. A. Murdock (H.), 89; P. Jennings (Y.), 89; W. E. Egan (H.), 90; H. B. McFarland (Pa.), 90; M. McBurney (H.), 90; H. B. Hollins (H.), 91; G. O. Winston (H.), 92; C. Truesdale (Y.), 92; J. W. Baker (Pr.), 92; L. Bosler (Pa.), 93.
The results of the first round of match play at 18-holes this afternoon follows: C. Truesdale (Y.) beat H. B. Hollins (H.), 3 up and 2 to play; H. B. McFarland (Pa.) beat M. Olyphant (Pr.), 4 up and 3 to play; W. E. Egan (H.) beat P. Jennings (Y.), 2 up and 1 to play; F. O. Reinhart (Pr.) beat U. A. Murdock (H.), 1 up; W. C. Chick (H.) beat B. D. Smith (Y.), 4 up and 3 to play; J. W. Baker (Pr.) beat G. O. Winston (H.), 4 up and 3 to play; H. C. Egan (H.) beat L. Bosler (Pa.), 9 up and 8 to play; M. McBurney (H.) beat N. S. Campbell (Y.), 6 up and 5 to play.
The second and semi-final rounds will be played tomorrow and the finals on Saturday. Two of the University players are unfortunately paired against each other, but in spite of this, Harvard's chances of victory are most favorable. Following are the pairings for the second round: C. Truesdale (Y.) vs. H. B. McFarland (Pa.); W. E. Egan (H.) vs. F. O. Reinhart (Pr.); W. C. Chick (H.) vs. J. W. Baker (Pr.); H. C. Egan (H.) vs. M. McBurney (H.)
