The intercollegiate golf tournament will be held this spring from Wednesday, May 8, to Saturday, May 11. Besides the four colleges, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Columbia, who have been represented in former tournaments, the University of Pennsylvania will this year enter a team. This will necessitate a longer tournament, as a bye match must be played. The matches will, as heretofore, be team matches, hole play, and with the old method of scoring. G. C. Clark '01 and C. Griswold, Princeton '01, the committee for choosing the course on which the tournament will be held, have as yet made no decision in the matter.
The prospects for the University golf team are very good. Of last year's team, J. G. Averill 3L., C. R. Henderson '02, C. T. Richardson '02, W. Wadsworth '02 and H. Lindsley '02 are in College. G. C. Clark '01 is also eligible, but will probably be prevented from playing by baseball practice. There are besides some promising men, of whom the following have had the most experience: G. Wheelock '01, the University golf champion; A. M. Brown '03, W. Vanderpool 1L., W. W. Hoffman, Jr., '02, W. B. Wood '02, and F. I. Emery '02. From the Freshman class there are H. B. Hollins, G. O. Winston, J. M. Richards, N. A. Murdock, Jr., J. T. Soutter, G. P. Snow, and H. Davenport.
Owing to the early date set for the tournament, practice will begin as soon as the weather permits. The nine-hole course at Riverside will be put in order, and all members of the Harvard Golf Club, whether candidates for the team or not, will be allowed the privileges of the links.
