The visiting committee appointed by the Board of Overseers to solicit donations for the building fund for Emerson Hall has turned over to the treasurer of Harvard College $154,000, approximately. This is about $4,000 more than it was originally planned to raise, but subsequent plans have made it desirable to raise, the total amount to $200,000.
No attempt will be made at present to let the contract for the building as the Corporation believes that more advantageous terms may be made later in the year.
Emerson Hall will be built on the ground at present occupied by Professor Shaler's residence and, when completed, will be devoted entirely to the work of the department of Philosophy. Guy Lowell '92 is the architect.
