At the Union last evening Mr. Edward W. Townsend, author of "Chimmie Fadden," and several other well-known books dealing with Bowery life, read a number of selections from his own works. In the course of his reading, Mr. Townsend related how he happened to create his most famous character, "Chimmie." Mr. Townsend has presented the Union Library with several of his books.
