RED TOP, NEW LONDON, CONN., June 19.--The Harvard University eight did no work this morning because of poor weather, but in the afternoon rowed six miles in short stretches. The old order, with Ayer back at 5, was used, but did not yet give complete satisfaction. The crew, however, showed some improvement in its work.
This afternoon the four took a long paddle up-stream which seemed to shake the men together somewhat. Francis was back at 3.
The Freshmen did a poor day's work. They went over the two-mile course under perfect conditions in the poor time of 11 minutes, 42 seconds. This unsatisfactory showing was due to the failure of several men to work hard and do their best.
