The final match in the interscholastic tennis tournament yesterday afternoon was won by H. Whitman of Volkniann's, who defeated C. Plympton of Newton High, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2, 6-1. The first two sets in the finals were fairly interesting. Although Plympton braced up after the first set and won the second by steady volleying along the side lines, he weakened in the last two sets and was easily defeated by Whitman's superior net play and driving. Plympton made a number of difficult cross court drives and lobbed well, but with the exception of in the second set, played unsteadily.
In the semi-finals in the morning, Whitman defeated H. Stetson of Andover 6-1, 6-4, and Plympton defeated T. Derman of Volkmann's 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.
Newton High and Volkmann's each won a total of 9 points and are tied for first place in the tournament. The final standing of the other schools is as follows: Andover, 6; Boston Latin, 3; Browne and Nichols, 2; Malden High, 2; Hopkinson, 1.
