Professor Edward Channing '78 has been for some time engaged in writing and compiling the first two volumes of a comprehensive narrative history of the United States and the early settlements, from 1492 up to 1900. The work will ultimately comprise eight volumes and will be published by the MacMillan Company. During the next academic year while on leave of absence from the University, Professor Channing will prepare the first volume for publication.

At present Professor Channing is at work on a book entitled "The Administrations of Jefferson and Madison" which will be published in connection with a series of twenty-five volumes on "The American Nation," edited by Professor A. B. Hart '80.
