Qualifying and First Rounds Played.--Hollins and the Egans Still Left.

MORRISTOWN, N. J., October 23.--The individual playing in the intercollegiate golf tournament began here today with the qualifying and first rounds of eighteen holes each. Five of the sixteen men who qualified were members of the Harvard team. They were: Hollins, Murdock, W. E. Egan, H. C. Egan, and Brown. Chick tied with Nash for last place, but lost the play-off to his opponent. In the first round Hollins, W. E. Egan and H. C. Egan won their matches, but Murdock and Brown were defeated.

The following men qualified this morning:

Pyne (P), 77; Hollins (H), 81; W. E. Egan (H), 83; Murdock (H), 84; Hitchcock (Y), 84; Jackson (C), 84; Campbell (Y), 84; McFarland (Pa), 85; Conklin (P), 85; Willard (Pa), 85; H. C. Egan (H), 85; Reinhart (P), 85; Glenney (C), 86; Brown (H), 87; Baker (P), 87; Nash (C), 88.

The results of the first round were as follows: Baker (P) beat Hitchcock (Y), 1 up; Hollins (H) beat Glenney (C); 4 up and 3 to play; Pyne (P) beat Murdock (H), 4 up and 2 to play; McFarland (Pa) beat Jackson (C), 5 up and 4 to play; Conklin (P) beat Nash (C), 6 up and 5 to play; W. E. Egan (H) beat Willard (Pa), 5 up and 3 to play; Campbell (Y) beat Brown (H), 3 up and 2 to play; H. C. Egan (H) beat Reinhart (P), 1 up.

The second round will be played tomorrow morning. The players are paired as follows: Hollins (H) vs. Baker (P); Pyne (P) vs. McFarland (Pa.); Conklin (P) vs. W. E. Egan (H); Campbell (Y) vs. H. C. Egan (H).
