The final match in the doubles of the University tennis tournament played yesterday afternoon was won by R. Bishop 2L. and G. A. Lyon 2L, who defeated J. I. B. Larned '05 and W. C. Larned '05, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
The first set was won by the Larneds owing to their superior team play and accurate placing, but Bishop and Lyon soon braced up and by brilliant net play and hard smashing pulled out the next three sets and the match. Lyon was very effective and his overhead smashes and hard ground strokes gained many points. The Larneds lost much of their speed and control in the latter part of the match and their defeat is due largely to this fact.
As a result of their victory yesterday, Bishop and Lyon earned the right to challenge W. S. Warland '03 and E. W. Leonard '03 for the University doubles championship. The match will probably be played at the end of the week.
