FRESHMEN, 7; SOPHOMORES, 5.

The Freshman baseball team defeated the Sophomore team on Soldiers Field yesterday in an exciting and for the most part a well played game. The Freshman team especially showed coolness and steadiness under disturbing circumstances--a great improvement over their previous work. The Sophomores showed lack of practice by their poor team work, and it was this fact which contributed to their defeat more than anything else.

In fielding, the Freshmen played a reliable game, making only four errors. Hamlen at first base was sure at critical times and strengthened the infield considerably. Parker caught an errorless game and was accurate in throwing to bases. The outfield handled the balls quickly and backed up the infield in good style. For the Sophomores, Perry played the best game, catching cleverly, and stopping many wild pitches. The infield did not handle balls quickly enough and threw poorly. The outfield work was marred by a few errors, but several excellent catches of hard flies easily counterbalanced this.

The batting of the teams was very unsteady. Alexander pitched much the better game of the pitchers, and had superior control throughout.
