Professor Emerton delivered a lecture in the Fogg Art Museum last night on "Carcassonne -- A Study in Mediaeval Fortification." Professor Emerton first briefly traced the historical importance of the town, and explained the causes of its growth. He then showed a series of photographs and plans of different parts of the fortifications, before and after their restoration in 1850. He concluded by explaining the different methods of attack and defense in the siege of a mediaeval town.
