BASKETBALL ON SATURDAY.

The University basketball team was defeated by Princeton, at Princeton, Saturday night, by the score of 19 to 12. During the entire game Princeton played fast and accurately and showed superiority to Harvard in consistent team work. Much of Harvard's poor playing, however, might be attributed to the smallness of the Princeton court.

The game was characterized by much fouling on the part of both teams. Up to the second half the score was 7 to 6 in Harvard's favor. Three successive goals from the field and one goal from a foul, however, placed Princeton in the lead, which was kept during the rest of the game. In individual playing Clark, Lehmann and Underwood for Harvard and Pell and Carter for Princeton, did the best work.

The summary: Harvard.  Princeton. Gilles, r.f.  r.f., Carter. Underwood, l.f.  l.f., Forney. Fenwick, c.  c., Pell. Lehmann, r.g.  r.g., Whitehouse. Clark, l.g.  l.g., Roper.

Score -- Harvard 12, Princeton 19. Goals from the field--Clark 2, Pell 3, Carter 5, Fenwick 1. Goals from fouls--Underwood 6, Forney 3. Time -- Two 20-minute halves.

The Freshman basketball team defeated the Yale freshman team in the Gymnasium Saturday night by the score of 15 to 6. Harvard had the advantage in size and excelled in good shooting and team work. Yale was weak principally in passing and in getting down the field under long shots, but played by far the faster game. Harvard's attempts at long shots were too frequent and there was a tendency to foul in both halves by running with the ball.

The summary: Harvard.  Yale. Smith, r.f.  l.g., Binkerd. Bennett, l.f.  (capt.), r.g., Church. Fisher, c.  c., Luce. Bigelow, r.g. (capt.)  l.f., Benham. Fosdick, l.g.  r.f., Tweedy.

Goals from floor--Bigelow 2, Smith 2, Bennett 1, Fosdick 1, Benham 2, Tweedy 1. Goals from fouls -- Bigelow 1, Fosdick 2. Referee--J. Brown '03, Harvard. Umpires--J. Linehan '04, Harvard; E. H. Prior '04, Yale. Time -- 20-minute halves.

Score -- Harvard 12, Princeton 19. Goals from the field--Clark 2, Pell 3, Carter 5, Fenwick 1. Goals from fouls--Underwood 6, Forney 3. Time -- Two 20-minute halves.
