SENIORS HOCKEY CHAMPIONS.

Freshmen Defeated in the Final Game, 2 to 0.--Extra Period Needed.

The Senior hockey team won the class championship Saturday afternoon by defeating the Freshman team in a close game, two goals to none. The game was to have been played at the Rink, but as the ice there proved too soft, it was decided to play at Spy Pond, where the ice was in-excellent condition. The playing was not as effective as it would have been on the Rink, owing to the lack of boards to keep the puck within bounds, but both teams played hard and fast throughout the game. The regular twenty minute halves were played without any goals being made, but in the extra period, the Seniors scored twice in quick succession.

In the first half, the Freshman sacrificed their team-work for the sake of unnecessary rough play. In this way they gained no advantage from their single strong point cv-- speed, for the Senior team was the heavier, and their team work was in no way broken up by the rough playing. Had the Freshmen combined team-play with their speed, they might have broken the Seniors' defense.

Although in the first two periods the game was very even, twice the Seniors almost scored. In the extra period the Seniors showed more endurance than their opponents, and scored in the second minute of play, Canterbury making a goal on a skillful pass from Hoxie. A moment later Canterbury scored again unaided, after a brilliant run down the ice. With a lead of two goals, the Seniors played a perfect defensive game by dropping one forward back, and gave the Freshmen no chance to score.

Following is the summary: 1901.  1904. Hoxie, f.  f., Fosdick. Coolidge, f.  f., Wait. Canterbury, f.  f., Souther. Milne, f.  f., Parker, Marshall. W. R. Lawrence, c. p.  c.p., Pruyn. Hyde, p.  p., Kent, Carr. Samson, g.  g., Stone.
