Work on New Buildings.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Work on the Architecture Building is progressing steadily, and several rooms on the ground floor are nearly finished. The plumbing is ready for use with the exception of a few alterations to be made in the basement. The painters expect to complete their work today. The least advanced part of the building is the entrance hall, where the plaster casts are. It will be at least a week before the casts that line the east side of the hall will be finished; and the pieces for the northwest corner have not yet been begun. The building will be ready for use about the last of December.

As far as the building goes, the Stillman Infirmary is nearly completed. All the plumbing and painting have been done; but some of the woodwork is not yet in position, and the floors are not all finished. The question of interior furnishing has not been decided on, so that the Infirmary will not be in use for some time to come.

The addition to the University Museum is just about completed, and will soon be ready for occupancy.

The new Semitic Museum is progressing rapidly and will probably be ready for use in about six weeks. The work is all done except laying the floors and putting in the woodwork.

Although the entire Pierce Building has not yet been finished, the two drafting rooms and a few recitation rooms and laboratories have been fitted out and are now in use. The carpenters will have finished work in the two large laboratories for testing machinery by the end of the week; but the large equipments necessary for these rooms will not be in place for several weeks. The periodical library is open. The work of filling the stacks of the main library was begun on Saturday and will be finished in a day or two.

The work to be done this fall on the extension to the Rotch Mining Laboratory is practically completed. The nine muffle-furnaces for fire assaying in the south end of the extension are finished, except for the flue which is to be placed above them. The room into which they open is also completed and is now being fitted out. This part of the extension will be used this fall in Mining 10. The blast furnaces, to be placed in the north side, will not be built till spring.
