Professor Thayer's Funeral.

The funeral of the late Professor Thayer was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Appleton Chapel. Professor Francis G. Peabody read a passage from the Bible, and then spoke briefly about the life and work of the deceased. Professor Thayer, he said, was one of the few true scholars of the day. Whatever task he undertook was always thoroughly performed, and never had to be done over. His life was so manly, strenuous and truthful that he won the respect and love of all who came in contact with him. Professor Thayer's life work was the interpretation and criticism of the New Testament, a work for which he was noted throughout the Christian world. He was not only a master of the New Testament, but he was a model of its teachings. His work influenced his whole life and helped to make him the strong, generous, open hearted man that he was.

Rev. Alexander McKenzie offered an impressive prayer and gave the benediction. During the service "God of the Livinglin Whose Eyes," and "For all the Saints who from Their Labors Rest," were sung. The funeral was largely attended by the friends and associates of the late professor. The burial was at the Mount Auburn cemetery. The pall bearers were President Eliot, Professor C. H. Toy, Professor Emerton, Professor E. C. Smyth, Professor T. F. Wright, Rev. G. A. Gordon, D.D., Rev. W. L. Ropes, Mr. John Noble and Mr. J. B. Warner.
