First Weld Freshmen Win.

The Freshman interclub fall regatta was held yesterday under exceptionally favorable conditions. The water was smooth and a slight wind was against the crews. Three crews from both the Newell and the Weld were entered. The course was from the Union Boat Club 1 1-2 miles up stream. The positions of the crews at the start were, beginning at the Beacon street wall: 1, Third Weld; 2, Third Newell; 3, Second Weld; 4, Second Newell; 5, First Weld; 6, First Newell.

The crews got off well together, but the first crews jumped at once into the lead and kept increasing it all the way to the finish. The second crews also drew away from the third crews immediately. At the bridge the two first crews were even, with the second Weld three lengths behind them and one length ahead of the second Newell. The third crews were still further behind with the Newell in the lead. From here to the end the first crews fought it out, until finally the first Weld crossed the line 10 feet in the lead. The second Weld was about four lengths behind and 1 1-2 lengths ahead of the second Newell. The third Newell crossed several lengths ahead of the third Weld. The time of the first Weld Freshmen was 9 minutes 31 seconds. The order of the winning crew was: Stroke, Hurd; 7, Lawson; 6, McLeod; 5, Abbot; 4, Williams; 3, Nice; 2, Lewis; bow, Johnson; cox., Chase.
