On Saturday afternoon for the first time the hockey squad was divided into something like first and second teams, Laverack, Goodridge, Rumsey, and Hardy of last year's team played with the first team, which was in consequence superior to the second in team play. The playing of both sides was hard and at times fairly fast, but neither showed very good defensive work.
The first team started off well and got a good lead but became rather careless as the game went on and won only by a score of 7 to 5. Goodridge and Pruyn did the best work for the first; Ward and souther for the second. the teams played as follows:
First team--Forwards, Rumsey, Goodridge, Pruyn, Laverack; cover point, Hardy; point, Litchfield; goal, Stone.
Second team -- Forwards, Souther, Ward Canterbury, Winsor; cover point, Ames; point, Manson; goal, Pierce.
