Pi Eta Play, "The Viking."

The Pi Eta Society will present for its theatricals this year a three-act comic opera, "The Viking." The book is by T. Stensland 3L., and the music by J. A. Loud '98. This is the first three-act opera that the Society has ever presented.

The plot deals with the adventures of Leif Ericsson in his voyage to North America in the year 1000. The first act is laid Norway in that year. Biarna returns from his trip to the westward and his vivid description of the strange, new region he has seen causes Leif to set sail on a similar voyage of discovery. History is followed exactly and the costumes, designed by the Norwegian artist Born, are true to the life of that period in Norway.

The second act shows the Vikings as they land on the coast of North America. The crew of the ship mutinies at the instigation of the villian and the vessel sails away, leaving Leif and his confidant, Turka, drugged and asleep. The two Norsemen do not awaken until the spring of 1901, when the third act is supposed to occur. The scene for this act is laid on Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, near the Leif Ericcson statue.

Rehearsals for the opers will begin on February 14. The dress rehearsal will take place on April 8. There will be six public performances in the ensuring two weeks,--two in Cambridge, one at the Tremont Theatre in Boston and three in neighboring towns.
