The committee on the Child Memorial Library has reported to the Department of English that the total number of volumes now in the Library is 3467, an increase since last October of 453. Of this increase, 101 came by transfer or deposit from the Harvard College Library, and 222 came by gift from various contributors. The largest number of books came from Professor Barrett Wendell, from Mr. Albert Matthews of Boston, and from Messrs. Houghton, Mifflin & Company. By the beginning of next year all important works of English literature will be in the library, besides many works necessary for the study of philosophy and languages. It is hoped that the Library may be thrown open more freely next year.
