HARVARD, 1; HOLY CROSS, O.

The Nine Plays a Steady Game.--Good Pitching on Both Sides.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The nine defeated Holy Cross Saturday afternoon through Stillman's excellent pitching and by consistently good fielding. Considering that there were two substitutes in the game, the showing made was very encouraging. The men played well together, and were perfectly steady at all times. The nine appeared much more seasoned, and there was a total lack of the nervousness which was so costly in the last Princeton game. Stillman showed very good control, and finished the game strongly. He received perfect support after the first two innings, when Fincke and Coolidge made errors, which, however, did not prove costly.

Griffin pitched well for Holy Cross and held the Harvard batters down well, except in the sixth and seventh innings, when five of Harvard's seven hits were made. Wendell made three clean singles, one of which brought in the only run scored, and caught three flies, two of them on hard chances. For Holy Cross, Linnehan played well at second, accepting nine chances without an error.

Harvard's run came in the sixth inning when Kendall singled, stole second and scored on Wendell's hit. Not another man on either side reached third. Harvard had another good chance to score in the seventh. Fincke reached first on an error but was caught trying to steal second. Clark hit to right field for two bases but was put out on an attempt to make three. Coolidge and Milne singled but Stillman went out on a fly.
