HARVARD, 26; AMHERST, 5.

An Uninteresting and Poorly Played Game.--Amherst Very Weak.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In the most uninteresting game of the season, Harvard defeated the weak Amherst team on Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon by a score of 26 to 5. Amherst is by far the weakest team Harvard has met this year, and should have been beaten by a still more decisive score.

Harvard had the game in hand from the start, scoring seventeen runs in the first inning on eight hits, five errors and seven bases given by the Amherst pitchers. After this inning the Amherst fielders made fewer errors and Tinker pitched a steadier game. At the same time the Harvard batting slumped, and the team did not score as many runs as possible. Harvard lacked life in the field and did not play with as much snap as was shown a week ago. Both of the errors were on easy chances and each cost a run. Stillman's work in the box was not nearly so good as that of Kernan last Saturday. In base-running the men showed better judgment than in the previous games, and the fault of over-running seems to have been corrected. Devens batted well, but did not have a chance in the field.
